Miscellaneous Items

Posted January 1, 2008 By AussieSapphire

Just a few items to announce:

*  The Christmas-New Year lot of orders will be despatched tomorrow (Wednesday 2nd January) when Australia Post and the couriers start work again.

*  We will be posting again on Thursday morning but will be out of the office on Thursday-Friday so orders placed after we leave will not be despatched until Monday.

*  There is now a new section on the website for books.  Apart from a couple of items (such as the Lightning Ridge DVD), these items are purchased through our affiliate partner Fishpond.com.au.  We have selected a great range of books about gems, minerals, lapidary, etc but you may browse the entire Fishpond catalogue using the search box at the top of the page.   Some great reference books here so check it out.

*  Not much mining happening at the moment as this time of year is very busy for farming – at the moment we are in the middle of harvesting oats, baling stubble and planting soybeans.   We have been very lucky for rain during December (although temperatures were quite cool) but the weather is very windy at the moment which is drying things out considerably.  Hopefully we will get more rain soon to get these new crops growing.

*  As mentioned, we are away from Thursday-Saturday.  We’ll be taking a short trip up to Ispwich to hopefully purchase a replacement engine for our grader.  One of the jobs required at the mine is maintenance of the “haul roads” – heavily loaded mine trucks travel over these gravel roads many times a day so a grader is helpful to keep them in good condition.  Unfortunately, the engine in our grader blew up a while back and it has been out of action ever since.  Hopefully this replacement will fit the bill.

That is all for now – we’ll be working to list some more gems online in the next couple of weeks although sapphire rough remains in short supply.
