New Tourmaline Facet Rough

Posted April 30, 2007 By AussieSapphire

Just unpacked a new batch of tourmaline facet rough newly arrived from our supplier in Nigeria.  There are some great colours in this lot and it appears very clean.  We havent started grading this – the photo is a very quick snap on the bench just to whet your appetite.  Note a small amount of aquamarine up in top right corner also – this is cleaner than previous lots and should provide some good cutting.

Click on the image to see a larger photograph – we hope to grade and list this material over the next couple of weeks.  No luck getting any work done this weekend due to the Celtic Festival but we’ll get on to it as soon as possible.

For those interested in a larger purchase, twist our arm and let’s see what kind of deal we can do.  To read more about tourmaline, a truly fascinating gemstone, see here for our previous Tourmaline Gem of the Month article.

See us at the Celtic Festival

Posted April 28, 2007 By AussieSapphire

As usual, Aussie Sapphire will be attending the annual Australian Celtic Festival here at Glen Innes in a week.  We had a great time last year and made good sales throughout the weekend to the many visitors attending the festival – here’s hoping for an even better weekend this year.

shamrock1.gifSee the official Celtic Festival website for more information about events and entertainment.  While accommodation is pretty well booked out in Glen Innes, it is not too late to enquire as there is sure to be something left somewhere.

Weekend passes to the Standing Stones venue only cost $25 per adult (children are free) for two days of non-stop entertainment – music, dancing, pipe bands, historical re-enactments and much more.  An absolute bargain which leaves you plenty of spending money for the market stalls – may we suggest you start with Aussie Sapphire !

Check back after the weekend for photos of all the fun.

Natural Zircon

Posted April 21, 2007 By AussieSapphire

The Aussie Sapphire mine produces excellent quality zircon in addition to our beautiful blue sapphires.  Zircon is a natural gemstone which although has been used as a gemstone since ancient times, is somewhat under-appreciated by many.  After gathering together a good parcel of rough, we have just finished cutting this batch and the results are fantastic.

We are in the process of grading and listing these gems online at the moment.  The photo above was taken before any quality or colour grading and is included to give an indication of the range of colours available.

Base retail pricing for these gems is $40 AU per carat for small gems up to $60 AU per carat where gems are larger than 1 carat in size.  This is for well cut, eye-clean gems of good brightness and colour (ranging from white, champagne, yellow, orange to red).  Please check our Zircon Catalogue now for these listings or feel free to contact us by email.

Wholesale and volume discounts apply so please enquire directly for more information on this.  Please note that particularly fine gems of exceptional quality are listed individually and priced at a higher level to reflect the rarity of these types.

Zircon should not be confused with the man-made stone cubic zirconia.  Zircon is a natural gemstone mined from the earth.  The colours shown above are natural with the stones simply cut and polished without any enhancement treatments.  Zircon will be covered in a future “Gem of the Month” article but in the meantime, you may like to review the Gemology Project entry on Zircon.

Easter Holiday Arrangements

Posted April 1, 2007 By AussieSapphire

Just letting all customers know that we will be taking a break over the Easter holidays so there will be some interruption to parcel deliveries during this time.

Parcel delivery will be delayed from April 6th (Good Friday) until Tuesday 17th.

We will be checking emails while we are away but will not be logging in every day so please understand if you do not receive a reply with our usual speed.

Please do not order during this time if you need fast delivery as it just will not be possible until we return home.  If you dont mind waiting an extra week for delivery, then feel free to order and secure your items.

Remember, the last post will go on the morning of Thursday 5th April.
(Wednesday for our American customers due to the time difference).

cheers from Andrew and Leah Lane (Aussie Sapphire)
